The sound system "delivers" the Word to the people! If people can not hear it or understand it, then the energy to pronounce God's Word (and talents worshipping him) only helps the presenter and not the congregation in attendance. In its essence, the sound crew effort is a ministry and CMPC appreciates your vounteer efforts!
Why Work on the CMPC Sound Crew?
Your responsibility as a member of the CMPC Sound Crew can be summarized in a few basic efforts:So What Have I Signed up To Really Do?
1) Learn how to run the CMPC sound system;
2) Sign up and run the sound system for a service (8:30 or 11) over two individual months-- i.e. around 8 total services;
3) Help cover other special services that come up-- i.e. Christmas, Maundy Thursday, etc.
What Does the Sound Person Actually Do For a Service?
In a nutshell, the sound person on duty for a service
has three major responsibilities:
1) Prepares for the service (come in 30
minutes beforehand to ...)
- Plan for the service
- Reviews the bulletin (& briefly talks to the Pastor) to understand what is going on in the service;
- Marks up the bulletin of where tracks of the CD should be;
- Set up the sound system
- checks the system and tests the basics (podium mic, Pastor's wireless lavelier mic, the Words with the Children wireless lavalier, etc.)
- provides/sets up extra need mics/connections for people-- e.g., other presenters, music, etc.;
- prepares the CD recorder to record the service;
- Enables/disables the mics/connections and controls the volume appropriately during the service;
- Records the service on the CD across several tracks (i.e. songs) so users of the CD can navigate easily (i.e. not have the whole service as one song);
- Gathers up all the mics and puts them away appropriately;
- Ensure all rechargeable batteries are placed on the chargers;
- Tidies up the sound desk;
- Powers down and closes up the sound desk;
- Power downs other sound gear if used-- i.e. the up-front roll around rack.
