"Up-Front Roll Around Rack"
Function
The up-front roll around rack serves two basic purposes--
1) connects up electronic instruments (electric guitars, keyboards, etc.) back to the mixer, and
2) provides a means for the musicians to hear the sound mix locally to them.
Notice that the roll around rack has a "umbilical" audio and power cable connected to it. Be careful to unroll the cable before you roll it into position! Also, please ensure the individual power buttons are engaged when you use it and that you power down everything when done.
1) Connecting Electronic Instruments
The rack currently supports four connections [labeled A, B, *C, *D] for electronic instruments to go back to the mixer. Musicians simply use one of four 1/4 phone plug cables on the top of the rack to plug into their gear (guitar, keyboards, electronic drums, etc.). Once done, the sound crew person controls that channel's volume on the mixer so to produce the best balanced mix for the congregation.* Note: Due to outgrowing our mixer, C & D may or may not be hooked up to the mixer. Thus, always use A & B first. Then, if you need to use C & D, look at the mixer's input connections to confirm that C & D's lines are connected to the mixer's rear input channels #6 & #7 (shown below) & the mixer's trim settings (see below) are set to the yellow markings. If not, change them to support C & D.

2) Providing the Sound Mix Back to the Musicians (i.e. also called a "monitor")
Musicians need to hear themselves to perform their best. The roll around rack offers two ways to accomplish this-- either through a speaker or through headphones. The "F" audio line connection coming from the mixer's sub mix fader is routed back to the roll around rack. It comes to both the Samson amplifier and the Behringer headphone amplifier so users can use either or both. We also even provide a third wireless way that we'll discuss later on below.A) Speaker Approach-- To use the speaker approach, simply ensure that the mixer's sub mixer fader (labeled to "f") is on and up and the Samson amp is powered on and its volume knob is turned to the ~3/4 position. FYI-- The volume is controlled by the combination of both of these volume controls (i.e. mixer sub-mix fader to "F" & the samson volume control).
**Note: Due to sensitive hanging choir mics, the sound crew person should not have the speaker on and the hanging choir mics on simultaneously due to increasing the feedback potential. Simply, have the "F" sub mix fader down when you have the hanging choir mics on.
B) Wired Headphone Approach-- To use the wired headphone approach, look in the front left credenza (where the CD's are stored & shown below) for headphones, 25' coiled extension cables, and 1/8" to /4" adapters. The cables and adapters are in zip lock bags. The headphones should already be connected to the wireless hearing assistance aids in a box that can also be used independently (not connected to the rack), as well. These wireless units do need a 9V battery-- preferably use the rechargeable, but be careful putting in/taking out the batteries due to a tight fit.
** Note: Since the hanging choir mics cannot hear the headphones, whether wired or wireless, no problems exist having these on when the hanging choir mics are on.
