"Mixer Basics"
Function
Mixers do just that-- they take multiple the sound sources (e.g. mics) and mix them down (to usually a stereo pair) to then be amplified and go to the speakers so people can hear the result.

CMPC's Mixer
CMPC uses a Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro mixer (see below).  The mixer offers 16 individual channels -- i.e. where mics and other line level devices devices can be plugged in.  And, four sub-mixes.   See the "Controlling Mics" section to see how to enable/disable and control the volume of each mic-- the main function of the mixer and activity of the sound crew person.

FYI-- The sub-mixes are controlled by the right side faders (near the output).  We use one of them to control the volume of the mix going up to the up-front roll around rack up amplifier/speaker combination.

Markings
As you can see, we marked the mixer to show where knobs should be.  The color scheme of the markings are:
    Knob Locations:
    Red = Constant  (i.e., knob should stay turned to this position)
    Yellow = variable

    Buttons
    Blue = button engaged (down)
    White = button not engaged  (UP)

The sound crew person should always review the board's knobs and buttons to ensure they are in the correct position before running the board for a service.
