The LOGOS Ministry is central to the youth ministry at Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church.  Re-established at CMPC in the mid-80s (following a brief start a few years earlier), LOGOS is a lay-run international Christian nurture ministry open to all from kindergarten through high school, with a current enrollment of approximately 70 young people at CMPC. We also offer a preschool program for younger siblings.  Every Wednesday night, all young people rotate through a four part structure:  Bible Study, Recreation/Play, Family Time (dinner) and Worship Skills.

Bible Time is grade-based study where we learn about the foundations of our faith—and nurture Christian relationships.  Worship Skills is a time where as a group we learn how to worship God and nurture Christian relationships. Family Time is an opportunity to experience a nourishing of body and spirit—and nurture Christian relationships.  The goal of Recreation/Play is to have fun together—and nurture Christian relationships. Each segment of LOGOS, FROG (elementary school), ROCK (middle school), and FISH (high school) experiences these four parts a little differently, based on the appropriateness for their ages.

At LOGOS we believe that faith is “more caught than taught” so we seek to cultivate these Christian relationships (in order to nurture the ultimate relationship with Jesus Christ) in a camp-like or retreat atmosphere every Wednesday night from mid-September through the end of March.   Over 50 parents and other adults volunteer each week to make this happen.  Parent participation, in some form, is one of the requirements for enrollment.  This makes LOGOS more of a family or church-wide program, not just a drop-off youth group.  It’s one of the few programs in the community that the whole family can do together.

We also believe firmly in a “fifth” part of LOGOS participation in Sunday morning worship with the congregation. Regularly scheduling each worship skills group (choirs, drama groups, puppet troupes, and a chime choir) in leadership in the services strengthens the commitment of young people and their families to worship and adds much creativity and liveliness to our Sunday services!

The LOGOS Ministry is open to all who are interested (church members and non-members alike) and who are willing to commit to the program in attendance and parent participation.  There is also an annual tuition (currently at $125 (K-8), $140 (high school)) with financial support for those who need it.  Registration is in September of each year at our annual Kick Off Meeting, with a mid-year registration in January. We welcome visitors most any Wednesday to come and try us out.  Just call the church office to let us know so that we can set a place for you at the table!  The program runs from 5:00-7:50 pm up through middle school and from 6:00-8:45 pm for high school.

The goal of LOGOS is the commitment of youth and children as disciples of Jesus Christ.  We seek to do that in a loving and “contagiously fun” atmosphere of Christian nurture.  For more information about LOGOS and how you can get involved, please contact our LOGOS director, Gail Pfeiffer (gailandlarry@comcast.net).
