Each winter, Christ Memorial participates in the county-wide Cold Weather Shelter. It has become our traditional way to bring in the New Year.
The Cold Weather Shelter operates through the cold weather months spending a week at a time in local congregations (such as our own church). During this period, we become the overflow space for Grassroots Shelter.
It is clear with the current economy that this service will continue to be needed throughout the county.
We need the following for our week of service:
Shift volunteers - 2 each evening and overnight with a Grassroots support person. Meals - Evening full meal can be a joint effort of families or groups Lunch - bag lunches each day, again families or groups Breakfast - Simple cereals, juice, coffee, tea and milk Drivers - pick up guests at the Mall after 5:30 pm and return guests in the morning at 7 am Activities - games, videos or just some friendly conversation Laundry - Individual laundry one evening and sheets and towells on the final day
If you can't be here there are still many ways to help. Supply the coffee, tea, sugar for the meals. Provide a New Year's treat. Provide some dinner music. Keep lists and make reminder calls. Be a coordinator for any of the above activities.
With a small investment of Your time and talent You can make a difference.
